1. Check the thermostat
Make sure it's set to Cool, the set temperature is below the room temperature, and the screen isn't blank. Replace the batteries if it has them.
2. Replace the filter
A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons an AC can't keep up. If you can't see light through it, replace it.
3. Check vents and returns
Open every supply vent and make sure furniture or rugs aren't blocking the returns. Blocked airflow makes the system work harder and cool less.
4. Look at the outdoor unit
Is the fan spinning? Is the unit clear of leaves, plants and debris? Near the beach, salt and dirt build up on the coil fins.
5. When to call
- Warm air from the vents
- The system turns on and off every few minutes
- Buzzing, rattling or grinding noises
- Ice on the indoor or outdoor lines
- Water around the indoor unit
Dirty ducts and airflow
Leaking or dusty ducts reduce the air that reaches your rooms. When we come out for an AC problem, we check the airflow path as well as the unit.
