Air Duct, Dryer Vent & HVAC Questions

Answers to the questions Westside customers ask us most.

FAQ

General

Where is Pure Air Cleaning located?

We are at 1327 Electric Ave, Venice, CA 90291, and serve Venice and 14 nearby Westside areas, including Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Mar Vista and Culver City.

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

Most homes do well with a cleaning every three to five years. Clean sooner if you have pets, allergies or asthma in the house, just finished a remodel, or moved into a home where you don't know the duct history.

How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?

About once a year for most households, and more often with daily laundry, a long vent run or a vent that exits through the roof.

How long does an air duct cleaning take?

A typical home with one HVAC system takes about two to four hours. Larger homes, two systems or heavy buildup take longer. We give you a time estimate with your quote.

Do you also do AC repair, heating and chimneys?

Yes. Besides duct and dryer vent cleaning, we handle AC repair, furnace and heating repair, HVAC maintenance and chimney sweeping.

What are your hours?

We are open every day from 7 AM to 8 PM.

FAQ

Air Duct Cleaning

How long does air duct cleaning take?

A typical home with one HVAC system takes about two to four hours. Larger homes, two systems or heavy buildup take longer. We give you a time estimate with your quote.

Do you clean the return vents too?

Yes. Returns collect the most dust because they pull air from the rooms, so we clean every return as well as the supply runs.

Will it make a mess?

No. The vacuum keeps the system under negative pressure, so dust is pulled into the machine, not into your home. We also cover floors in the work areas.

Do I need to be home?

Someone needs to let us in and see the inspection photos. You don't need to stay for the whole cleaning.

FAQ

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Is a foil or plastic dryer hose safe?

Thin foil and plastic hoses crush easily and trap lint. Metal ducting is the safer choice, and we can replace the hose during the cleaning.

Do you clean dryer vents in condos and apartments?

Yes. We clean stacked and long-run dryer vents in condos, townhomes and apartment buildings, including roof vents.

Can you clean my dryer vent when you clean my ducts?

Yes. Many customers book both in one visit.

FAQ

Duct Repair & Sealing

Can you repair ducts during a cleaning?

Yes. If we find a loose connection or a torn section, we show you and can usually fix it in the same visit if you approve.

How do I know if my ducts leak?

Rooms that never get comfortable, weak airflow at some vents and dust that comes back quickly are common signs. An inspection confirms it.

Do you replace flex duct?

Yes. We replace torn or crushed sections of flex duct and reconnect them to the boots and plenums.

FAQ

Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

Can you work outside business hours?

Yes. We can start early or work after closing so your staff and customers aren't disturbed.

Do you clean dryer vents in apartment buildings?

Yes. We clean shared laundry room vents and individual unit dryer vents, including long and roof-exit runs.

Do you provide photos for property managers?

Yes. We photograph what we find and what we cleaned, so you have a record for owners or tenants.

FAQ

Chimney Sweep

How often should a chimney be swept?

Have it inspected once a year if you use the fireplace, and swept whenever there's buildup. Many people schedule it in the fall, before the first fire.

Is chimney sweeping messy?

No. We cover the hearth and floor, and the vacuum captures soot as we work.

Do you install chimney caps?

Yes. A cap keeps out rain, debris, birds and animals.

FAQ

AC Repair

Do you do AC tune-ups?

Yes. A tune-up before summer checks the filter, airflow, coils and thermostat so the system runs efficiently.

Can dirty ducts affect my AC?

Yes. Blocked returns, clogged filters and leaking ducts reduce airflow, which makes the AC work harder and cool less.

Do you install thermostats?

Yes. We repair and install standard and smart thermostats.

FAQ

Heating & Furnace Repair

When should I get a furnace tune-up?

In the fall, before you need the heat. It's the best time to catch a dirty filter, weak igniter or dusty burner.

Is a burning smell normal when I turn on the heat?

A light dust smell for a few minutes at the start of the season is common. If it's strong or doesn't go away, turn the system off and call us.

Can you clean my ducts and check my furnace in one visit?

Yes. Many customers book both before winter.

FAQ

HVAC Maintenance

How often should HVAC maintenance be done?

Once a year for most homes. Twice a year, before summer and before winter, if you use both heating and cooling often.

What does an HVAC check-up include?

Filter, thermostat, airflow, blower, coils and duct connections, plus a summary of anything that needs attention.

Can I add duct cleaning to a maintenance visit?

Yes. If the inspection shows heavy buildup, we can quote duct cleaning in the same visit.
